Becoming Ecological
Ecological training and workshops for therapists, educators and coaches to work outdoors, based at Mill House in Earl Soham, Suffolk
We see ourselves as ecologically orientated, curious about what it means to be in relationship with the more than human domain and deeply intrigued about the ecological trouble we’re in.
We know that there is an increasing tribe of people who know enough about the poly crisis and feel the need to do something about it. We know that there are professionals who feel compromised between how they are expected to work, with what they know is the right thing to do. Both of us hear stories from those who are seeking to live with integrity whilst experiencing a sense of complicity.
Over the past five years we have been creating a method that connects much of the powerful ecological philosophy that has emerged over past decades to a way of living in the world, both personally and professionally. We have developed a place based framework for navigating the shift from theory to practice.
You will find details here about what we are offering in terms of professional development, writings and specific practices. You can also hear from the places where we live and work as well as the community out of which we have been cultivating our approach.
The courses we offer here are designed to support the development of an ecological mind (Marshall 2020), whereby human relations practices affect an ontological stretch into an ecocentric frame. This is the work that is urgently needed if our human relationship with the earth is to radically change.
Here you will find out more about our innovative new ecological training programmes for human relations practitioners that build upon broad ecological philosophy and incorporate contemporary ecological thinking and approaches to practice.
Becoming Ecological is based at Mill House, Mill Hill, Earl Soham, Woodbridge, Suffolk IP13 7RP – a working smallholding and home to our community. Here we are surrounded by fields, woodland and open skies, offering an immersive setting for outdoor practice. Contact us for directions, travel details and workshop bookings.
We know that what we are offering is a potent combination of ecological methodology, practice and activism. It’s not for everyone!
This is not an environmental education course, nor training in eco-psychotherapy. We are not in the business of ‘training’ anyone, in anything, including eco-warriorship!
" Many thanks again for the workshop this week. It's still settling with me but I can already tell we're at the start of quite a journey. I feel very lucky to be led by you and Hayley and to have shared the experience with the group."
Peter, Writer
"Hey, Giles and Hayley, the ecological workshop was a wonderful experience and so thought (and somatically) provoking. I am still in the post experience phase of feeling a bit discombobulated and wordless about the whole experience so I am sitting with that and enjoying the ‘not knowing’ with curiosity!"
Polly, Coach
